Daisies

Welcome to Year One
Welcome to Daisies class! Transitioning from Reception to Year 1 is a big but exciting step and we are so excited to guide your children on this next stage of their learning journey.
Throughout the year, children in Daisies class will have the opportunity to learn through hands-on activities and experiences as well as continue to become more familiar with traditional classroom routines. We value children not just for their academic achievements but also for their individual growth, enjoying getting to see them blossom as independent thinkers, creative developers and caring classmates.

Homework
Reading: Grown-ups are expected to read/share a book with their child at least five times a week and they need to write a comment in the reading diary. Ideally read for about 10 minutes. Please feel free to enjoy other books outside of the school reading books. Also, please ensure their reading diary is inside their bag each day to be looked at by the teachers.
Spellings: Spellings will be sent home every Friday. The following Friday, children will practise them by writing them in a sentence. Children will begin by focusing on ‘red words’ (common exception words) and then build on from their using words containing ‘special friends’. Please practise these little and often (around two or three words a day works well). Please ensure their spelling books are inside their bags every Friday so new spellings can be added.
