Welcome to Year Three

Year 3 is an exciting and important stage in your child’s learning journey as they take their first steps into Key Stage 2. It is a year full of new experiences, growing independence and plenty of opportunities to discover, explore and achieve.

Our vision is to create a happy, supportive and engaging classroom where every child feels valued, confident and excited to learn. We encourage children to be curious, ask questions, challenge themselves and recognise that making mistakes is an important part of learning.

Throughout the year, we aim to build on the strong foundations developed in Key Stage 1 while helping children become increasingly independent and resilient learners. We celebrate effort and progress, encourage children to take pride in their achievements and support them to become kind, thoughtful and responsible members of our school community.

Most importantly, we want Year 3 to be a year that children enjoy and remember – a year of growing confidence, new friendships, exciting learning and lots of reasons to feel proud!

Homework

Children are provided with a Reading Record and are encouraged to read at home five times each week. Reading Records are checked daily in school so that we can celebrate and support regular reading.

Children may choose to read a book they have brought home from school or any suitable book they have at home. The most important thing is that they are reading regularly and developing a love of books.

For maths, children are encouraged to use Times Tables Rock Stars (TTRS) at home to practise and develop their times table fluency. Login details can be found in their Reading Records.

In Year 3, our main focus is on the 3, 4 and 8 times tables, while continuing to practise the 2, 5 and 10 times tables learned in Year 2. Developing confidence with all times tables is extremely valuable and will support children across many areas of maths.
