Welcome to Honeywell’s Specialist Provision KS1 Sunflower Room — a warm, nurturing space where every child with speech, language and communication needs can grow, belong and shine. Our team provides high‑quality, personalised support that builds strong communication foundations, develops independence and helps children feel confident in themselves and their learning. We blend specialist teaching with meaningful mainstream experiences so pupils can take part in school life, feel included and celebrate who they are. Through tailored pathways, small‑group support and close partnership with families and professionals, we remove barriers and help each child progress towards their EHCP goals. Our focus is always on communication first, belonging, independence and preparing children for successful transitions within and beyond primary school. Here, every child has a voice — and every voice matters.
Routines are at the heart of our room. They give children a sense of safety, predictability and calm, helping them feel ready to learn and thrive. Each morning begins with arrival and connection time, where pupils settle in, greet familiar adults and prepare for the day ahead. This gentle start is essential for our learners, supporting emotional regulation and building trusting relationships. We then move into sensory circuits, which help children wake up their bodies and brains. These short, structured activities support focus, coordination and readiness for learning, making a big difference to how confidently children engage throughout the day.
Our mornings continue with communication and language sessions, followed by discovery and exploration through stories. All children take part in phonics and reading sessions, adapted to meet their individual needs so every learner can make progress at their own pace.
Our afternoons begin with a calm settling session, including fine‑motor activities and handwriting. This gentle start helps children regulate, refocus and feel ready for learning. We then move into maths exploration, where pupils learn through practical tasks, problem‑solving and hands‑on experiences.
The rest of the afternoon is spent exploring our wider curriculum through topic learning. This includes Art, Understanding the World, Personal, Social and Emotional Development and outdoor learning. These sessions give children rich opportunities to be creative, curious and confident as they discover more about themselves and the world around them
We finish each day with reflection and story time. This calm, shared moment helps children think about their day, celebrate their successes and enjoy a relaxing end through a familiar story. It supports emotional regulation, builds connection and ensures every child leaves feeling settled and positive.
We also enjoy an active and creative morning each week through our PE sessions. Children take part in units of work that build fundamental movement skills, explore games and develop confidence through dance. Alongside this, we have a weekly music session with Severn Arts, giving pupils rich opportunities to listen, play and express themselves. We also spend time each week in our Forest School, where children learn through nature, develop independence and enjoy hands‑on outdoor experiences

Homework
Reading every day boosts your child’s imagination, builds vocabulary, supports letter recognition and creates precious shared story time with family.
You can support your child by talking together about the story: what they can see on the page, who is in the story, where they are, what they are doing and what has happened.
Give them the language they need. For example:

PE & Outdoor Learning
Sunflowers have P.E. every Tuesday. Please make sure your child has a named P.E. kit in school at all times. Getting changed is an important part of our routine and helps children develop independent life skills, such as managing clothes and looking after their belongings.
Every Thursday, Sunflowers take part in Outdoor Learning as part of our Understanding the World Around Us curriculum. We explore nature, practise important life skills and enjoy sensory experiences in all types of weather. The children learn through hands on activities such as collecting natural materials, investigating seasonal changes, building simple structures and enjoying movement outdoors.
Because we often get muddy, wet or messy, please send your child in named home clothes that are comfortable and suitable for outdoor play.
Outdoor Learning Checklist
- Long-sleeved top and jumper/hoodie
- Trousers or joggers (no skirts or dresses)
- Spare set of clothes in a named bag including socks
- Wellies (these can stay in school or be sent home weekly)
- Clean shoes or pumps for indoors
- Waterproofs
