Cornflowers

Welcome to Cornflowers

Cornflowers class is the older class in our Complex Communications Needs Specialist Base here at Honeywell. In our class, education is centred on the needs of the child and starts from where each child is academically and emotionally.

We use a semi formal curriculum covering Maths, English, Science and a variety of other national curriculum subjects through topic based teaching and try to follow the interests of the children while having fun along the way. Our topics are carefully chosen to allow the children to experience high quality texts and access lots of practical activities and sensory play. Both children and staff like to be hands on and get messy!

Our curriculum is enriched through appropriate on and off site visits where we aim to support the children to experience the wider world and gain in self esteem. Through a language rich environment and specialised interventions children are given time and support to develop their skills at their own pace and enable them to grow as individuals and develop important life skills.

Homework

Reading as much as possible every day will support your child in so many different ways. Fuelling their imagination, experiencing new words and sentence structures, letter recognition and above all special time with a family member to listen to and  talk about stories.

We would also love to see any photos of achievements, trips, milestones or home learning on our Evidence for Learning app. Please sign our Acceptable Use Policy below and return it to school to receive your welcome email

PE & Outdoor Learning

Currently PE is on a Tuesday and Forest School is on a Friday. We will notify you via email if there are any changes to this. PE kit should be kept in school at all times as it is always useful to have in case we get some extra hall time or need to practice for a school event.

Forest School kit can be worn to school on our designated day. Children should wear long trousers and long sleeves to protect them from stings and scratches. If the weather is warm please feel free to send shorts and a t shirt for your child to change into after our Forest session.
