PE and Sport Premium

Please read the information below which gives details of our PE and Sport Premium Grant and how we allocate the funding.

PE and Sports Premium at Honeywell Primary

At Honeywell Primary School, we recognise the vital role that Physical Education (PE) plays in supporting the health, wellbeing, and personal development of our pupils. We believe that a broad, engaging PE curriculum, combined with exciting extra-curricular opportunities, positively impacts concentration, attitude, and academic achievement for all children.

Our PE and Sports Premium funding enables us to strengthen and expand our provision by investing in high-quality resources, improving outdoor play opportunities, and ensuring inclusive access to physical activity for every pupil.

What is the PE and Sports Premium?

The government provides dedicated funding to improve the quality of PE and sport in primary schools. This funding is jointly allocated by the Department for Education, the Department of Health, and the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It is given directly to schools to enhance physical education and promote active, healthy lifestyles.

Each school receives a base amount plus an additional sum per pupil. This funding must be spent exclusively on PE and sport provision.

Purpose of the Funding

Schools have flexibility in how they use the Sports Premium, but the focus must be on sustainable improvements in PE, sport, and physical activity. This includes:

  • Developing the quality of PE lessons
  • Increasing participation in competitive sport
  • Expanding opportunities for active play and extracurricular activities
  • Supporting pupils with SEND to access inclusive physical education
